What a Storm
Have you ever really listened to the lyrics of "Praise You in the Storm" by Casting Crowns?
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalms 121: 1&2
God does not want bad things for us but, because of free will, we have the choice to live a life that will throw us bad events. When bad events happen to us, something small- like my car breaking down on the side of the road for no good reason or something huge- like the main office of your business burning down in the middle of the night, He's there.
God calls us to praise Him always.
When we find out that it's only going to cost $62 to fix the problem of the car which died on the side of the road it's easy to praise Him. When we find out our best friend's cancer has been surgically removed, it's easy to praise Him. When we find out that we're going to get a raise, it's easy to praise Him. When we find out that our dad is dying of cancer, not so easy to praise Him.
I get told all the time that I'm optimistic. My internal response to that is, why shouldn't I be? Even when my car broke down on the side of the road it was good because it made me slow down and take a glimpse at my financial life. It made me realize that me striving to have an emergency fund is right.
In my opinion, we waste of a lot of energy dwelling on the bad. It's better to take the bad and make it good. That's what God does, so why don't we?
It's not so easy to praise Him when a mentally ill person burst into a packed movie theater and opens fire killing and injuring dozens. Of course, we don't know what is going to happen in this situation and it's easy for me to say this because I have not directly been affected, but I also know that God will move... He will move in BIG, BIG WAYS!
It's easy to ask Him for help during the storm, but it's harder to praise Him while walking through it.
As believers, we know that God will use the Colorado Massacre to further His plan. God is just as sad as we are about innocent people being injured/ killed. Think about it! Because of this there are less people in the army for Christ! Why would God not be in this storm? Why shouldn't we praise Him?
Bad things happen; storms come and storms go but He always will pull us out. Why should we praise Him after the storm if we know He will pull us through it?
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalms 121: 1&2
I love you!
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
